In 2008, Chris Burden’s Urban Light became an iconic fixture at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), featuring 202 antique street lamps illuminated with incandescent bulbs. By 2010, LACMA, committed to sustainability, sought to enhance the sculpture’s energy efficiency. With support from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, they turned to TGS for a solution.
After years of rigorous research and testing, TGS engineered custom LED bulbs tailored to Urban Light’s unique needs. These bulbs maintained the warm, inviting glow of the original incandescent lights while seamlessly integrating into the antique fixtures. By 2016, the transformation was complete, achieving a remarkable 92% reduction in energy consumption while preserving the sculpture’s artistic integrity.

Universal Light™ G5

The TGS Universal Light™ G5 is a direct replacement for metal halide, high-pressure sodium, and fluorescent lamps in fixtures with a mogul and medium base.
It is an ideal replacement for acorn, teardrop, globe, bollards, post top, recessed cans, street light, and area lighting and much more. Best-in-class advanced thermal management operates with a passive cooling isolated driver, requiring no fan. It allows a high degree of light generation without the risk of overheating in high-temperature applications such as enclosed fixtures and hot weather climates. Resistant to moisture, shock, and vibration, the Universal Light™ G5 features an internal power supply and is 100% recyclable.
A high CRI provides a superior correlation to a wide range of selected color temperatures, which range from 1900K to 5000K to satisfy lighting requirements in a variety of environments. Additional proprietary CCTs are also available: Wildlife-Friendly and HPS Match – designed to replicate the look of HPS lamps. UL, cUL, and RoHS listed, and IP64 rated, the Universal Light™ G5 is a practical and economical retrofit for indoor/outdoor lighting. The TGS Universal Light™ G5 is backed by a 6 year/60,000 hour warranty for a long life of maintenance-free service.
